Post 70 claims another state championship

The American Legion Post 70 19U baseball team won their third straight state championship with a 10-6 win over Tuscaloosa Post 34 on Saturday in Pelham.

The championship win catapults Post 70 into the Southeast Tournament in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Nathan Light got the start for Post 70 in the win. Light helped lead Post 70 to the title, having pitched five innings while giving up five runs, four of which were earned on three hits and three walks.

Post 70 finished with 14 hits. D.J. Law led the way by going 3-4 with an RBI. Brayden Baggett, Joey Wozniak, Dylan Register and Wood Jinright all finished with two hits.

Post 70 scored the game’s first three runs in the second inning. Ryan Tomlin, Jinright and Gage Herring all picked up RBI in the inning.

Post 34 cut into their deficit with two runs in the fourth to bring the score to 3-2.

Post 70 had their most productive inning in the fifth when they score four runs to go up 7-2. Law, Tomlin and Herring all had RBI hits.

Despite Post 34 scoring 4 in the sixth, Post 70 put the game out of reach with their second three-run inning of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Tomlin and Jinright had RBIs.
