Troy competes at district

The Troy Tiger Sharks spent their Saturday competing at the District Swim Meet in Dothan. Troy went into the meet with their eyes set on advancing to the State Swim Meet in Birmingham.

By day’s end, the Tiger Sharks had a total of 22 swimmers qualify for state and finished in third place overall.

“Saturday’s meet went great,” said head Nicklaus Chrysson. “All the kids swam hard and the coaches were very proud of the effort that was shown in Dothan.

Each swimmer at the meet had the opportunity to qualify for state if they finished in the top four of their event. They also automatically qualified for a spot in Birmingham if they finished before the event’s qualifying time.

Bryan Campbell swam the 50-yard breast stroke and finished under the qualifying time to reach state. Kevin Wang and Landon Campbell finished in second and third in the 50-yard breast stroke.

Bryce Tatum came in fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.43. Nicholaus Simmons came in third in the 50-yard butterfly.

The Tiger Sharks qualified in eight different relay events including the 200-medley relay and the 200-freestyle relay.

The state swim meet will be held on July 26-28 at the Crossplex in Birmingham.
