Post 70 finishes Invitational 2-2

The Troy American Legion Post 70 19U baseball team wrapped up play in the Palmetto Invitational Tournament with a 5-2 win over Florence (South Carolina) Post 1 in Sumter, South Carolina.

The win evened Post 70’s record in the tournament at 2-2. Post 70 fell to both Pitt County Post 39 17-7 and Sumter Post 15 9-3. Post 70 knocked off Chaplin/Newberry on Saturday 12-7 before beating Florence in the finale.

Brayden Baggett started the game for Post 70 in the finale. Baggett pitched all seven innings and allowed just two runs, only one of which was earned on four hits and two walks.

Post 70 finished with nine hits, eight of which came from players five through nine in the lineup. Dylan Register was the lone player from the top of the lineup with a hit. Gabe Anderson, Joey Wozniak, D.J. Law and Hunter Jones each had two hits.

Post 70 jumped on Post 1 in the first inning and scored the game’s first two runs. Register scored the first run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk by James Jones. Law singled towards first base to drive in Gage Herring to put Post 70 up 2-0.

Post 1 got one run back in the bottom half of the inning. In the fourth, Post 70 pushed their lead back to two at 3-1 when Herring drove in Ryan Tomlin with a sacrifice fly to right center.

After Post 1 scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth to bring the score to 3-2, Troy put the game out of reach with two final runs in the seventh.

Wozniak scored on a wild pitch and Hunter Jones scored on an error off the bat of Herring, giving Post 70 a 5-2 lead.

Post 70 will be back in action this evening when they travel to Eagle Stadium in Ozark to take on Ozark beginning at 5:30 p.m.
