The Pike Liberal Arts Junior Varsity Lady Patriots will compete in the state tournament at Macon East beginning today.

The Patriots come into the tournament as a two seed after they fell just twice in the regular season.

“They have done really well this year,” said head coach Robert Rollan. “They are 15-2 and the number two seed in the tournament. I am excited for them. We have eight ninth graders and start seven of them. We feel like we have a chance to represent Pike well and go far in the tournament.”

Both of the losses for the Patriots came by one run. Rollan believes his team can draw confidence from the two losses.

“The Edgewood game, we didn’t start playing until the fifth inning,” Rollan said. “In the Macon East game we had the lead. The girls are really confident that they can play with anybody, but you still have to go out and prove it.”

The Patriots have a lot of good young talent according to Rollan, one of them being Morgan Bundy.

“Morgan, whether she plays for JV or Varsity, gets on and scores runs,” Rollan said. “Whenever you have a girl that does that it makes a difference.”

The Patriots will play Southern Choctaw beginning at 11.
