CHMS splits home opener with Luverne

Charles Henderson Middle School split a double-header with the Luverne Tigers on Thursday evening in their home opener. The Trojans fell in game one 5-4 before winning comfortably in game two 8-4.
Brady Huner got the start for the Trojans in game one. Huner lasted 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits and struck out 8.
The Trojans finished with seven hits in the loss. Noah Prestwood, Daryl Lee, Damien Hart, Will Templin, Brady Huner, Cobi Cantlow and Braden Snyder all picked up a hit for the Trojans.
The Trojans entered the bottom of the final inning down 5-2. The Trojans were able to get two runs on a Prestwood RBI single and a fielder’s choice by Lee to bring the score to 5-4, but couldn’t get any closer.
In game two, Mario Davenport got the start for the Trojans. Davenport pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs, one of which was earned on two hits.
The Trojans finished with six hits led by Templain who went 2-3 with two RBI. Prestwood, Lee, Hart and Cantlow all picked up singles for the Trojans.
The Trojans jumped out to 5-0 lead in the first inning. Prestwood came around to score the game’s first run on an error. Lee came in to score on Press Jefcoat groundout. The Trojans finished the inning with a pair of RBI singles by Templin and Cobi Cantlow.
The Trojans added one run in the second and two more in the fourth to pull away from the Tigers.
