It took 12 attempts, but the Charles Henderson Trojans broke through and put their mark in the win column after knocking off Fort Payne 6-4 on Saturday.

The win brings the Trojans’ record on the season to 1-11.

The Trojans fell behind 4-0 early, but a five-run fifth inning helped the Trojans score the final six runs of the game, earning themselves the win.

Will Reeves got the start for the Trojans and lasted 5.1 innings. Reeves allowed four total runs, three of which were earned on five hits and struck out four.

J.B. Sanders took it the rest of the way for the Trojans. He let up one walk and struck out three.

After allowing eight unofficial errors in their loss to Holtville on Friday, the Trojans committed just one in their win over Fort Payne.

The Trojans were even with Fort Payne at five hits. Lawson Scarbrough, Keonte Bradley, Anthony Gurba, Christopher Maxwell and Sanders all had a hit for the Trojans.

Fort Payne spread out their four runs over the first five innings of play. They scored a run in the first before putting up two runs in the top of the second inning. Fort Payne scored their final run of the game in the top of the fifth to go up 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Trojans responded with five runs, all of which occurred with two outs in the inning. Scarbrough drove in the first run of the inning with a single driving in Maxwell. Brantley had the big blast of the inning when he hit a grand slam to give the Trojans a 5-4 lead.

The Trojans picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Noah Lowery was walked with the bases loaded to bring the score to 6-4.

The Trojans will look to make it two in a row this evening when they travel to take on Eufaula at 6:30 p.m.
