The Pike County Bulldogs just keep winning. The Bulldogs’ latest victory came at the hands of Abbeville 20-2 on Thursday night in Abbeville.

The win for the Bulldogs gives them an early season record of 3-0. That leaves them two shy of their win total from last season when they went 5-20.

In the first two wins, the Bulldogs had to battle adversity and Barnes couldn’t be happier about their effort.

“I’m extremely proud of our guys,” said head coach Taylor Barnes. “In both games we had to rally back after losing a lead. This group of guys has shown a tremendous amount of maturity and grit.”

The Bulldogs received good outings on the mound on Thursday evening by Matt Morrow, Julius Allen and Tyrese Johnson. The Yellow Jackets managed just one hit during the contest. Morrow pitched 3 innings while allowing 1 unearned run and struck out four.

The Bulldogs finished with 14 hits led by Qua Walker, who went 3-3 with three singles. Of the 14 hits, four of them were extra base hits. Chance Bruney, Whit Maulden, Julious Allen and Matt Morrow each had a double.

There will be no resting on laurels for the Bulldogs despite the hot start.

“The 3-0 start is great, but today our focus shifts to Highland Home and getting better at practice,” Barnes said. “We have a tough schedule ahead and have many areas that need improving.”

The Bulldogs will look to improve to 4-0 when they travel to take on Highland Home at 6 p.m.
