Eagles eager to resume area play after postponements

Goshen has been forced to reschedule two games this week due to wintry weather and head coach Ethan Carroll and the rest of the Eagles are hungry to get back on the court.
The Eagles were scheduled to take on Calhoun on Tuesday and Central Hayneville on Friday, but the weather forced different plans.
“We haven’t been able to practice much,” Carroll said. “Fortunately we get to play (today). We are excited. We have only played one area game. We still have to play Calhoun twice, Hayneville twice and one more with Luverne, so these next two weeks are going to be tough.”
The Eagles got off to a much later start than most teams throughout the state. Because of the success of the football team, the Eagle basketball teams didn’t get started until December.
“We are excited; we haven’t played many games this year,” Carroll said. “We got a late start. We feel like we are going to have to compete a little harder because Calhoun and Hayneville are a little better than they were last year as well as Luverne. Its to going to be exciting to see where our players are.”
After their start in December, the Eagles had just a couple weeks to play before the holiday break. The Eagles returned to the court on January 4 and now, two weeks later, their season has been put on hold again.
“It’s kind of new territory for me as well as the players,” Carroll said. “Once we get it going, we kind of had some stops. Now, basically with a week off, it will be interesting to see how we show up tomorrow.”
With the time off, Carroll does expect his team to be a little rusty, but so will their opponents.
“They are in the same boat as we are as far as school being out,” Carroll said. “I expect a little bit (of rust). Any time you are off for this amount of time without playing games it’s going to be a little different. We have a lot of seniors, so hopefully it doesn’t take long to get back to where we were.”
The Eagles will make up Tuesday’s game against Calhoun at 3 this afternoon.
