Bulldogs sweep Raiders

The Pike County Bulldogs varsity boys and girl’s basketball teams swept Houston Academy in area play on Thursday night.
The varsity girls began the evening with a 34-20 win over the Raiders. The boys followed suit with a 54-42 win.
The Lady Patriots improved to 1-2 in area play and coach Todd Reynolds believes his team is beginning to figure things out.
“The tough teams we played in the first half of the season should pay off this second half,” Reynolds said. “It was a great team effort. Our young team is beginning to figure it out.”
The Bulldogs had two players score in double figures in the win. Precious Vaznaian and Aliah Broadnax each finished with 10 points a piece. Both Hannah Griffin and Kyah Rouse each had four points, while Urriya Berry had two.
With the win for the Pike County boys remain undefeated in area play.
Andres Burney led the way for the Bulldogs with 20 points. Kevon Harris had eight points while, Xavier Newson had seven points. Jahzarian Lampley and Jaidyn Wilson each finished with six points a piece.
The Bulldogs took a 36-23 lead into the final quarter. Burney scored 12 of his 20 points in the quarter to help seal the win.
The Bulldogs will be back in action today when they travel to take on Vicksburg.
