Troy falls in overtime against Samford

The Trojans led late on Friday afternoon but fell to in-state rival Samson 82-76 in overtime in the consolation game of the Tulane Classic in New Orleans.

The loss for the Trojans gives them a fourth place finish in the classic.

The Trojans have now concluded non-conference play and will ride into the Sun Belt Conference season with a 5-6 record.

The Trojans finished the classic with an 0-2 record after they fell to Tulane on Thursday 106-75.

The Trojans took on a Bulldogs team for the second time this week. The Trojans fell to Samson on Sunday 80-73.

The Trojans held a two-point lead until Olivia Crozier knocked in a basket that would ultimately send the game into overtime.

The Bulldogs outscored the Trojans in overtime 12-6 to claim the six-point win.

Amber Rivers led the Trojans in scoring with 18 points on 7-11 shooting. Jasmine Sanders also finished in double figures in the loss with 11. Sky’Lynn Holmes had eight points while Kayla and Jasmine Robinson both had seven.

The Trojans’ largest lead was 16 at the 7:57 mark of the third quarter and the game was tied just twice, including at the end of regulation.

The Trojans will be back in action next Friday when they begin conference play at home against Georgia Southern. They will turn around and play again on Sunday against Georgia State. Tip for Friday’s game is scheduled for 5 p.m., while Sunday’s game will be at 1 p.m.
