The Tiger Sharks hit the pool for the district swim meet in Dothan over the weekend and represented Troy well. Twenty-four local swimmers will advance to the state meet.
“We looked really good considering we only had two months to practice,” said head swim coach Nicklaus Chrysson. The team also weathered three rainouts this season. “We looked better than I thought we would.”
The Tiger Shark swimmers that will represent Troy at state are Hunter Ross, Josephine Dawson, Brea Swindle, Andrew Dixon, Nickolas Peerson, Kirill Kobelev, Addison Bruner, Ellis Averett, Kensley Anderson, Landon Campbell, Bryan Campbell, Nicholas Slobodchikoff, Bryce Tatum, Jake Rodgers, Dallas Daughtry, Fabian Prieto, Amy Prieto, Cait Ryan, Alex Cordle, Kevin Wang, Isaac Cordie, Sawyer Gross, Kendall Savoie and Nicholaus Simmons.
“It’s really special,” Chrysson said. “They get to represent our district as we go to state. These kids are proud they even get to go, whether it’s for one event or three or four. Their parents are excited to because for a lot of these kids this is their first year and they are new to the process.”
The state meet will take place on July 28-29.
“The kids are excited because they get to spend the night in a hotel and get up the next morning and swim hard,” Chrysson said.
With the state meet right around the corner, the Tiger Sharks will practice two times a day in order to build up their strength and endurance.
“We are practicing until next Thursday in the mornings from 8 until 10 and then at night from six to eight. We are trying to build up our endurance and our stamina, along with not only getting our muscle memory down, but build muscles.”
