The Troy Dixie boys lost to Enterprise 15-2 on Saturday, ending their run in the district tournament.
After falling in extra innings in game one, Troy answered with a 12-0 win against Headland. Troy had to turnaround and play at 8 p.m. against Enterprise and couldn’t get anything going against the host team.
“It was a good experience for the boys, especially the younger ones that played for our older team,” said Troy Manager Eric Ernsberger.
Troy got a complete game performance in game one by starting pitcher J.D. Wilson. Troy also picked up four home runs in game one by Javon Christian, Marx Copeland, Scott Taylor Renfroe and Jackson Senn.
“They came out ready to play and did a really good job, “Ernsberger said. “They got some runs that we couldn’t get in the previous night. We hit the ball a lot better, especially with the homeruns.”
Troy went up against a fresh Enterprise team in game two. After Enterprise hit a three-run home run in the first, it was an uphill climb for Troy.
“We struggled, obviously, with our hitting and pitching,” Ernsberger said. “I don’t think they were as good; we shouldn’t have gotten beat 15-2. Us being pretty tired probably had something to do with it. It was a long day. We just couldn’t bounce back.”
Even though it was a short trip, Ernsberger felt his team had a good time.
“We had a lot of fun,” Ernsberger said. “It was a good team and just tried to make it fun, especially for the 14-year-olds because it was their last year playing rec league baseball.
“We had a lot not play because of travel ball, so we had to pull some young kids up. The main thing was I tried to make it fun for all the kids.”
