No. 2 Seminoles sweep Trojans in double-header

The Troy Trojans softball team dropped two games to the No. 2 Florida State Seminoles on Tuesday. The Trojans dropped game one 9-3 before losing a pitchers duel in game two 2-0.

Rachel Rigney took the ball as the Trojans starter in game one. She pitched all seven innings in the loss for the Trojans, allowing nine runs on 11 hits and four walks.

Becca Hartley had two of the team’s five hits to lead the Trojans, while Stephanie Snyder, Erica Davis and Logan Calhoun all had one.

The Seminoles took an early 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run homerun off the bat of Cali Harrod. They increased their lead in the third inning when Carsyn Gordon hit an RBI single to bring the score to 3-0.

The Trojans brought the deficit down to one when Snyder doubled to center field to score both Hartley and and Calhoun.

The Seminoles added three runs on two hits in the fourth and three more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Trojans were able to scratch across one run in the seventh inning when Katie Webb reached on a fielder’s choice scoring Calhoun.

In game two, Claire Graves threw all seven innings and six hits and five walks in game two. The Trojans finished with two hits by Davis and Kaylee Hussey.

The Seminoles scored their first run in the fourth inning. After walking three batters, Graves gave up an RBI single by Cassidy Davis. The Seminoles added their second run in the seventh on two hits.

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday when they host Appalachian State in a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
