Lady Trojans clinch area title with 18-12 win

Charles Henderson and Brew Tech combined to score 30 runs on Tuesday, but the Trojans who prevailed 18-12 to clinch the area championship.

The Trojans were out-hit 12-11, but Brew Tech finished with 11 errors.

Emma Kirkpatrick led the way at the plate, going 3-5 with 2 RBIs, while Sidney Armstrong finished 2-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Molly Kate Sanders finished 2-5 with four RBIs and The Trojans also got hits by Tucker Earls, Lindsey Fox, Graci Williams and Jaicee Todd.

Sanders started the game for the Trojans. She pitched five innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits, while striking out three.

Kirkpatrick pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on three hits.

The Trojans scored four runs in the first to take an early lead. Earls hit a single to score Kirkpatrick for the first run. Sanders followed up with a bases loaded double to score Armstrong, Earles and Fox.

After Brew Tech scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Trojans added three more in the second. Abbie Barron scored on a sacrifice fly by Snyder, Kirkpatrick scored on an Armstrong single and Armstrong scored on the sacrifice fly off the inning, this time by Fox.

The Trojans sent 16 batters to the plate in the third and scored 11 runs on three hits.

Brew Tech attempted to make things interesting over the final four innings of play. Down 18-1, Brew Tech scored six runs in the fourth and one run in both the fifth and seventh inning before falling by six runs.

The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on rival Pike County beginning at 5 p.m.
