The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans began play in the Enterprise Softball Tournament on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Slocomb.
The Trojans scored in the first inning, but no more as starting pitcher Molly Kate Sanders came up just short in the pitcher’s duel.
Sanders pitched all five innings of the timed game and allowed one run on four hits while striking out four.
The Trojans finished with four hits by four different players. Whittaka Lowery, Emma Kirkpatrick, Sidney Armstrong and Rose Snyder all logged hits.
Emma Kirkpatrick doubled and came around to score on a double by Armstrong to give the Trojans an early 1-0 lead.
That was the only time the Trojans sniffed the lead as the Trojans bats fell silent. Sanders held Slocomb scoreless until the fourth inning.
Slocomb evened the score at one on a two-out double. They grabbed the lead in the top half of the final inning after the inning started with a runner automatically put at second due to tiebreaker procedures. That run came around to score on a fielder’s choice.
The Trojans had the same opportunity in the bottom of the order when Kaitlyn Richardson started the inning at second base.
Richardson advanced to third base, but a groundout ended the comeback chance for the Trojans.
The Trojans struggled in game two and fell to Alabama Christian Academy 6-0 in their second game of the tournament. Kirkpatrick got the start and pitched all five innings, allowing six runs on nine hits.
The Trojans picked up just one hit by Tucker Earles in the fifth inning.
The Trojans will continue play in the Enterprise tournament today.
