Lady Patriots sweep Emmanuel Christian

Pike Patriots outscored the Emmanuel Christian Warriors 24-7 in a double-header on Tuesday afternoon in Troy.

The Patriots took the opener 14-4 four innings before defeating the Warriors 10-3 in game two.

“The girls played well in both games,” said Patriots head coach Robert Rollan. “We need to improve defensively, but pitching and hitting were outstanding.”

The two wins bring the Patriots record on the season to 11-13.

Meagan Faulk pitched all four innings in the win. She allowed four runs, three of them earned on eight hits and one walk.

Morgan Bundy finished with three hits in four at bats and knocked in four RBIs to lead the Patriots at the plate. In all the Patriots finished with 13 hits. Haliegh Dewberry went 2-3 with five RBIs, while Danielle Brown and Callee Jinright both had two hits.

The Patriots fell behind when they allowed one run in the first inning, but quickly responded to take the lead with a five-run second.

Bundy doubled to center to score both Ashlyn Atwell and Maggie Phelps to give the Patriots the 2-1 lead. Following a walk by Jordan Grice, Brown hit the Patriots second double of the inning to score Bundy. Dewberry smacked the third double to left field to score broth Grice and Brown to give the Patriots a 5-1 lead.

The Warriors cut into the Patriots lead with a run in the third. The Patriots put the game out of reach with a six-run third. Bundy had a two-run single to begin the scoring for the Patriots. Dewberry and Jinright followed up with a RBI singles and Katelyn Dendy reached on an error to score Dewberry.

After the Warriors scored two runs in the fourth, the Patriots scored their final three runs in the fourth on a Dewberry single, and a Dendy double.

Game two

The Patriots scored in the first three innings to get off to a quick start in game two’s win over the Warriors.

Dewberry pitched 3.1 innings allowing two unearned runs on two hits and struck out five batters. The Patriots finished with nine hits led by Dewberry who went 2-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Dewberry singled to left field to score Bundy to give the Patriots the 1-0 lead. Faulk followed up with an RBI fielder’s choice and Maddie Johnson was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded.

The Patriots added one run in the second on another double by Dewberry to put the Patriots up 4-0.

Emmanuel ended the shutout in the third inning with two runs; before the Patriots scored two more runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Grice groundout and a Dewberry walk to go up 6-2.

Atwell tripled in three runs in fourth inning to put the Patriots up 9-2 before Brown doubled down the line to score Bundy to give the Patriots a 10-2 lead.

The Patriots will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Fort Dale following the conclusion of the junior varsity game at 3:30 p.m.
