Patriots sweep Northside in key double header

Reece Burbage pitched a complete game for the second-ranked Pike Patriots in their 4-0 win over area foe Northside Methodist in game one of a scheduled double header on Thursday afternoon.

The win for the Patriots improves their record on the season to 16-4.

Burbage allowed just three hits in seven innings and struck out nine batters while only walking two. All three of the hits that Burbage surrendered were singles.

The Patriots did the majority of their damage in the middle innings. After scoring one run in the first inning they added three more in the fourth.

Pike finished with five hits by five different players. Hunter Jones, Cole McWhorter and Reed Jinright all picked up doubles, while Jade Sikes and Cason Murphree had singles.

Sikes brought in the first run of the game for the Patriots when he singled to right to score Wood Jinright from third.

In the third inning Jones doubled to left field to score Murphree who advanced to second on a stolen base to bring the score to 2-0. Reed Jinright drove in Pike’s final two runs of the game later that inning when he doubled down the left field line to score both Jones and Wood Jinright.

Game two

The Patriots scored in the first three innings and finished off the sweep of Northside with a 11-3 to improve their record on the season to 17-4.

Reed Jinright picked up right where Burbage left off, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on five hits and six strikeouts. Tyler Floyd pitched one inning and giving up one hit and two walks.

Tristan Carter recorded two of the Patriots’ seven hits including a double. The Patriots also got hits from Tyler Hussy, McWhorter, Wood Jinright, Reed Jinright and Cason Murphree.

Wood Jinright, Trevor Barron and Murphree each scored two runs, while Reed Jinright, Hussey, Sikes and Carter each scored one.

The Patriots scored in the first three innings, including four runs in the top of the third to go up 9-1.

The Patriots will host Bessemer Academy in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
