Bulldogs drop area opener

The Pike County Lady Bulldogs struggled to get anything going offensively and fell to the Daleville Warhawks 40-16 in the area opener on Tuesday evening.

“Our team aggression just isn’t there,” said Bulldogs head coach Todd Reynolds. “We have a few players that play scared. They are going to start losing minutes and I am going to start promoting. It’s growing pains. It’s tough when our first area game is against the best team.”

The Bulldogs managed to score just three points in the opening quarter and just seven in the half and went into the locker room at halftime trailing the physical Warhawks 23-7.

Vaznaian finished with a team high 12 points for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs offense continued to struggle in the second half, the team combined to score just nine points. The Hawks finished with 17 second half points and secured an easy 40-16 win.

The Bulldogs will be in action again on Friday when they host Ashford at 5:30 p.m.

“The next phase for us is how well we adjust and get mentally prepared for an area game,” Reynolds said.

At press time, the Pike County boy’s basketball team trailed the Warhawks 20-14 at halftime.
