The Zion Chapel Rebels fell to the defending Class 2A State Champion Elba Tigers 48-21 on Friday night in Jack.

The Rebels’ 14 points on Friday night was the most points Zion Chapel has ever scored against Elba.

“I am proud of how our guys have fought,” said head coach Bubba Nall. “They played well against a team that is very athletic, speedy and well coached. Our kids fought hard and I am very, very proud of them. I think our program might have taken a big step in the positive direction tonight.”

The Rebels were able to manage to score seven points in the opening half on a fumble recovery by Isaac Hartley and the Rebels entered halftime-trailing 28-7.

In the second half the Rebels picked up rushing touchdowns by Rodney Owens and Kane Haskins from 35 and 40 yards out.

The Tigers capitalized with special teams, returning a kickoff for a touchdown and converting on two onside kicks.

The Rebels (3-6, 2-4) have one more game before closing out their regular season and they hope they close it out on a high note when they travel to take on Pleasant Home at 7 p.m. Friday.

“We are banged up a little bit, but hopefully we can lick our wounds and have a great week of practice and preparation and finish this thing off strong,” Nall said.
