The Charles Henderson Trojans fought hard, but lost two matches to the Enterprise Wildcats on Monday.

After what was supposed to be a tri-match with both Ariton and Enterprise, the Trojans squared off with the Wildcats in two best two-out-of-three matches. The Wildcats got the better of the Trojans in both matches, winning 25-10, 25-13 and 25-20, 25-9.

“We went up against a great Enterprise team,” said Trojans head coach Jennifer Sikes. “They eat, sleep and breathe it. We are getting there, but we are not there yet. We stepped up and played competitive ball with them today, and that is where we need to be.”

The team fought adversity and never quit. “It was not how I liked for it to happen, but I was happy that they did show up and try,” Sikes said. “They never hung their heads and they didn’t give up.”

After getting swept in the first game, the Trojans came out in the first set of game two and took things all the way to the wire. The Trojans led by as many as four points in the first half of the match and had the game tied late in the match at 16-16.

“The net play was the best that it has been,” Sikes said. “We had several balls come out that we were able to save and send over. Their talking was a little better at times today. They communicated well, but they were really strong at the net. That has been one of our weak points. We had some real positives tonight.”

The Trojans now shift their attention to Thursday when they travel to take on Brew Tech in a match that will determine where the area tournament will be played next week.

Sikes and the Trojans want to close out this week sharp and ready to go.

“The past few matches we started and finished tough and there haven’t been many lulls in between,” Sikes said. “We are getting there. Hopefully on Thursday we can pull the upset and we will be here to host area.”

The match begins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
