The Goshen Eagles have an opportunity to secure a playoff berth a win against Central Hayneville on Friday.

The Goshen Eagles have made the post season for seven consecutive seasons.

“It would be great if we could pull off this win Friday night and make our playoffs again,” said Eagles head coach Bart Snyder. “That is our goal every year. To accomplish that goal would be outstanding. You cut the teams in half whenever you make the playoffs, and that is something that is exciting for us.”

Snyder said Goshen battles in one of the more competitive regions in the state. The tops four teams – Elba, Goshen, Luverne and New Brockton – have a combined record of 18-6. The Eagles (5-1, 3-1) have lost only to then top-ranked Elba.

“We have some very good teams,” Snyder said. “We feel like our four teams that would represent our region could be as good as anybody in the state.”

Snyder believes the key to his team’s success is their selflessness.

“They pull so hard for their teammates,” Snyder said. “We have a running back that does something great one week, and then it would be the other running back that does something the next week. There is no animosity amongst those guys. They are pulling on the other guys to be good. They play so well as a team. That is something that we hope they can continue to do.”

Friday is Homecoming, and Goshen will host Central Hayneville (1-5). The Eagles have won all four of the previous meetings against Central-Hayneville, including a 40-0 win last season.

“Central is truly very talented and athletic,” Snyder said. “When you look at them they are humongous. At some point it’s going to click with them. I am trying to tell our guys that we can’t let it be us. They are by far the most athletic team that we are going to see.”

The key will be remaining focused on the task at hand.

“It takes a lot for young kid to separate the fun that comes with (homecoming) and the realization that this is their contribution to the activities of homecoming,” Snyder said. “You have to separate it. That takes a disciplined kid and an unselfish kid to say ‘as much as I want to be a part of it, the biggest contributions and the biggest memories will be what happened on that football field Friday night.’”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
