The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans picked up their first win of the season Monday when they defeated the Greenville Tigers in straight sets 25-9, 25-13, 25-18.

The win puts the Trojans at 1-1 in the area.

“They started off really strong,” said Trojans head coach Jennifer Sikes. “On the way, the girls talked about being a team and that they were going to break things into three areas: good passes, good set and a good hit. That is what they did.”

Sydney Watson and Abigail Salmon finished with 10 points each. Watson has four aces and Salmon had one. Rose Snyder finished with seven points and three aces. Addyson Bryan had three points with two aces and Lindsay Fox had six points with two aces. Salmon, Watson and Mykyia Milton all finished with four kills.

“They looked better all the way around tonight,” Sikes said. “They looked better at the net, on defense, and their passes were better. We played consistent.”

Heading into the weekend the Trojans had the opportunity to have two days of hard practice and that paid off, Sikes said.

“ “We had them believing in themselves,” she said. “I told them on the bus that they got their first win; they know they can do it. It’s time to dig down and put that talent into action and bring some W’s to the table.”

Sikes noticed the confidence in her players continue to grow throughout the match on Monday. “You could tell they were adjusting. They were talking more. If they made a mistake they would express to one another what they needed to do to fix it. The biggest part was the communication and it paid off today.”

Sikes hopes the Trojans will be able to relax and get a few more wins before the start of the area tournament. The team travels to Dothan today.

“Going to Dothan, I know that would be a really big win,” Sikes said. “I am hoping that they will take this this over from tonight. When we get home they can get on their computer and watch Hudl and they can see what they did. We played them pretty good in their tournament. We are hoping that we can bring another one home tomorrow.

Play begins at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity team. The varsity game will follow shortly after.
