Elijah Caldwell led the Charles Henderson Middle School offense in its 46-20 win over Beverlye on Thursday.
The win puts the Trojans at 5-0 with two games remaining in the regular season.
“We started out quick tonight,” said Trojans head coach William Garner. “We were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We jumped out on them early.”
The Trojans 14-0 lead came on a rushing touchdown by Caldwell and on a touchdown pass from quarterback Walker Stallworth to J.B. Sanders.
CHMS recovered an onside kick attempt that led to another touchdown by Caldwell, who closed out the half with two more rushing touchdowns to give Charles Henderson a 38-6 lead at halftime.
“Elijah is a super hard worker and great kid,” Garner said. “He is on pace to have over 1,000 yards on the year in eight games. He does everything right and is the toughest player on our team. He really deserved the four scores tonight.”
Stallworth scored the Trojans lone touchdown in the second half.
The Trojan defense held Beverlye to 20 points.
“The defense played well,” Garner said. “They really stepped up. We had some good speed on the edges. We contained them and made tackles in space which was a big key for us during the week.”
CHMS plays Dauphin next week..
“The guys have come to work every single day and have done everything we have asked them to do,” Garner said. “We are a much different team then we were last year. We have to beat Dauphin to get into the championship game. This is our biggest week of the year.”
The Trojans will travel to Enterprise to take on Dauphin next Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
“We are going to have to make sure that we don’t beat ourselves,” Garner said, “We are going to have to tidy things up and not have any penalties and take care of the football. If we do that we will have a chance to win the football game.”
