The Goshen Eagles improved to 3-0 in area play when they defeated the Zion Chapel Rebels on Tuesday.

“Zion Chapel has a very good team,” said Eagles head coach Amy Warrick. “We did good. We came out with a lot of energy and played really well.”

The Eagles had to battle back from a 10-point deficit in the first set before winning 25-22, 25-21, 17-25, 25-16.

“I was proud of the girls and how they were able to bounce back,” Warrick said. “They were down in the first game, and they showed some maturity by being able to battle back. That is something we haven’t done in the past. When we get down, we kind of get down on ourselves.”

The Eagles were able to bounce back thanks in large part to the serve.

“We were able to keep our serves in,” Warrick said. “We have been known to miss our serves, but we kept them in. We made smart decisions with the ball and didn’t make errors.”

Selena Ellis finished the match with three aces, 19 points scored, one kill, 24 assists and two digs. Jada Hall had six points scored, 14 kills, six blocks and eight digs, while Anastasia Mallard had three kills and four blocks. Kate Warrick had one ace with five points scored, 16 assists and seven digs.

With the win the Eagles continued their fast start within area play.

“That’s big,” Warrick said. “We have one more game against Zion Chapel this week. We are hoping we can take this momentum into Thursday. It’s good to be able to breath a little easier knowing we are 3-0 in the area.”

The junior varsity Eagles also won on Tuesday 25-20, 25-23 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Briona Burden had one ace, six points scored, two kills, 18 assists and four digs. Sydni Garrett finished with four aces, 10 points scored and six kills. Molly Wares had one ace, two points scored, six kills and two digs.

The junior high eagles began the night losing to the Rebels 17-25, 25-21, 13-15.

The teams travel to Zion Chapel on Thursday. Play begins at 4 p.m.
