Bulldogs play strong but lose to Ariton

The Pike County Lady Bulldogs played perhaps their most consistent match of the season Tuesday.

Although Ariton swept the Bulldogs 19-25, 20-25, 22-25, head coach Todd Reynolds is starting to see his team come together.

“It’s a work in progress,” Reynolds said. “We don’t have the experience and the reps that these other teams have yet. It takes time. This game we played today was the first time they stuck to the game plan the entire match.”

The Bulldogs held a lead of 19-15 in the first set before their lack of experience came into play.

“It takes time,” Reynolds said. “It takes time. It takes time to build your program. I am expecting some great things. This time is a year or two away from being really competitive.”

Mercedes Harvis led the team with seven kills, while Keeyah Rodgers had eight blocks.

The Bulldogs, who are 0-1 in the area, will host Daleville beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

“We got a big area game coming up,” Reynolds said. “Everything we have been doing has been in preparation and to get ready for more area play.”
