The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans are still searching for their first win of the season after losing a heartbreaker to G.W. Long in five sets on Monday.
Trojans head coach Jennifer Sikes. “We couldn’t rebound off their receives.”
The Trojans were resilient, on several occasions rebounding from six or more point deficits. The final scores were 25-23, 12-25, 25-23,19-25 and 10-15.
“It’s not nice to see them down, but to see them being able to come back and go ahead and ultimately win that game is nice to see,” Sikes said. “We are getting there. We are building and they are getting stronger every day.”
Rose Snyder finished the match with five points, one ace and six kills. Lindsey Fox scored 13 points with one ace and had four kills, while Sydney Watson had seven kills and two blocks. Mykyia Milton had four kills and one block.
“They didn’t play with consistency,” Sikes said. “It was an upsetting loss. We had the ability and we just didn’t execute at times when we needed to.”
One of the bigger problems for the Trojans all season long has being able to convert on the serves. “Our serves did kill us tonight,” Sikes said. “That was the difference in the game for us. We have got to get strong and consistent in that spot.”
With the loss the Trojans fall to 0-7 on the season.
“We are definitely searching for that first one and trying to get there,” Sikes said. “We just have to be greedy when we need to be greedy and we need to go ahead and get that first one in. Tonight was a heartbreaker because they came close at times. They just couldn’t quite reach it.”
The Junior varsity squad also took things to the final match losing in three sets to G.W. Both teams will be in action this afternoon when they host the Carroll Eagles. The junior varsity begins at 4:30 p.m.
