The Charles Henderson junior varsity squad beat Dothan 24-3 on Monday.
The ninth grade Trojans took to the field during the opening quarter with a combination of freshman and sophomores finishing up the final three.
“There were a lot of positives,” said Trojans head coach Brad McCoy. “They looked good. We have been giving them a lot of reps during practice. They split those with the varsity guys at practice.”
After working hard all summer, the players were excited to take the field.
“They looked forward to getting on the field and playing somebody,” McCoy said. “They have been used to playing as a scout group against the varsity, so it’s nice for them to play a real opponent.”
Most of the players were part of the middle school team that went 8-1 last year. “They have been chomping at the bit to get out there and play in front of a home crowd.”
Wide receiver Sean McKinney, running back Derrian Williams and Malcolm Hall all had touchdowns.
The junior varsity Trojans will be back on the field at 5 p.m. Sept. 5 when they host Northview.
