The Pike Patriots dropped to 0-3 on the season after falling to Lee Scott on Tuesday afternoon in straight sets. The Patriots will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Greenville to take on Fort Dale at 4 p.m.

The Pike Liberal Arts volleyball team fell to 0-3 on the year when they dropped their contest to Lee Scott in straight sets on Tuesday.

The Patriots couldn’t get in the rhythm of the match falling, 25-11, 25-8 and 25-13.

“I have some players that want it, but we are going to have to figure out how to put it all together,” said Patriots head coach Jacqui Wynn. “They started to show a little heart in the third set, but they have to start showing it sooner. We get up and then we get on a roller coaster ride.”

In set one the Patriots, found themselves down 10-0 to start the match and couldn’t get on track and fell to the Warriors by 14 points.

The motto for the Patriots is to focus on a stop light and stay in the green. On Tuesday night they stayed in the yellow and red according to their head coach.

“We were mostly in yellow and red,” Wynn said. “They were trying to control what they couldn’t.”

After falling in set two by 17 points, the Patriots came out strong in set three and held a lead 8-7 before the Warriors started to slip away.

“They have improved during practice,” Wynn said. “I have friends from college come hit to them and they nail in practice harder then most kids their age. They are doing things in practice; it’s just not transitioning. I have to try and get that from the practice to the game.”

With a 0-3 record the Patriots are looking for any confidence that they can grasp.

“They haven’t found enough confidence,” Wynn said. “They get a little nervous with the crowd and they get distracted.”

The junior varsity team won for the second consecutive time, defeating the Warriors 25-11 and 25-16.

“They are excited,” Wynn said. “They are ready to go. Somehow I have to be able to get their confidence over to varsity. My varsity girls get excited for them but the excitement dies down when it is there turn to play.”

The varsity Patriots will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to play Fort Dale at 4 p.m. The junior varsity squad will return on Monday whey host Northside Methodist at 4 p.m.
