The Charles Henderson varsity volleyball team is excited to begin the upcoming season this weekend in Dothan
Head coach Jennifer Sikes is excited to see what her team can offer this season. “We have had a great summer and a lot of good participation and dedication.”
Sikes has added to her coaching staff this year by welcoming in former Alabama State player Chelsea Scott.
“She is well rounded in volleyball,” Sikes said. “I think she is adding depth to the program.”
The Trojans will feature a roster with five seniors and a lot of experience. Addison Bryan, Alexis Blair, Lindsey Fox, Deizah Holland and Jackie Miller will all be looked on to lead in 2016.
“I am very excited to have these girls,” Sikes said. “They bring a lot of leadership where we have lacked a little bit on the court. They step up when they need to step up. They are doing a great job at leading this team.”
The Trojans feature three freshmen: Mykyia Milton, Sydney Watson and Symira Moore, all of whom will play a role this season.
“I plan on them having a lot of playing time,” Sikes said. “We have a lot of talent coming up.”
Height will help the Trojans, who continue to struggle with serving.
“We have a lot of height,” Sikes said. “I think we are going to be strong at the net. For serving, we have some strong players so we are working on that as far as keeping the ball in.”
Sikes believes her team is primed and ready to have success this season.
“My girls have set their standards high,” Sikes said. “A successful season for us is going to be making it past area and into regionals.”
The Trojans will play in the second game of the Tiger classic on Saturday. They will play following the conclusion of match one which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
