Troy AAA Rookies advance after defeating Russellville

The Troy AAA Rookies staved off elimination by defeating Russellville 23-6 Friday in the state tournament in Oxford.
Troy scored in every inning of the crucial game.
Cole Pugh got the start for Troy, pitching two innings and allowing three runs on two hits. Hayden Adamson threw two innings, allowing three runs on two hits. Blake Lowery pitched one inning without surrendering a hit.
Troy scored two runs in the opening inning. Pruitt Vaughn drove in KaNeil Lewis on a ground out back to the pitcher and Kade Berry followed that up with a ground out to score Adamson.
Troy took a 5-0 lead in the second inning when Tyler McNair scored on an error and Lowery drove in Cooper Campbell on a single to centerfield. Rhodes Baker reached on a triple scoring Lowery to end the scoring in the second.
Russellville scored three runs on two hits in the bottom of the inning.
From there the two teams traded runs over the remaining innings. Vaughn and Berry scored two runs for Troy in the third inning, and Russellville followed that up with a run of their own in the third.
Troy took a 7-4 lead into the fourth inning. Two RBI’s from Berry and Hooten once again extended their lead to 9-4.
Troy put the game out of reach in the fifth inning when they scored 14 runs to go up 23-6 heading into the top of the fifth. Troy had four hits in the inning, but drew 10 walks.
Troy had 14 hits in the game led by Lowery, Tyler McNair, Lewis, Hooten and Vaughn who each had two hits.
Troy will now get set to take on Municipal on Staturday at noon.
