The Troy Tiger Sharks have wrapped up its 2016 summer season. After competing in Andalusia and at home twice, the Tiger Sharks are preparing for the District Swim Meet in Eufaula on July 16.

Three swim meets into their summer schedule, the Troy Tiger Sharks are busy preparing for the July 16 district swim meet in Eufaula.

Head coach Torrey Teal is happy with the team’s progression.

“They have been doing really well,” Teal said. “We have seen improvement from every kid in every meet, and that is really encouraging to see.”

This is Teal’s first season as swim team coach.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” Teal said. “I have four coaches that work with the swimmers every day in practice, and it’s fun to come out to the meets to see how much improvement happens week by week and to be able to see what the coaches have been working with them on.”

At the beginning of the season, Torrey and her fellow coaches worked hard on endurance to prepare swimmers for the season. The Sharks swim hard during the week working on their form and their endurance, before taking it easy on the day before the meet.

“Practice has stayed about the same,” Teal said. “As we get into district and state, we are going to look into doing two-a-days which is something that we have done in the past.”

During regular season meets the swimmers can’t get disqualified. That will change come district. In order to compete at the July 30 state meet, swimmers must make their qualifying times or finish in the top four spots during the district meet.

“We already have some kids that could be considered state qualified, but they have to do it at district,” Teal said. “We have some that are really close. We expect some new kids to go along with some of them that have been with us for a few years. That will be fun.”
