“There are going to be some unique rules to this, but this is very good for the kids,” said Charles Henderson head coach Brad McCoy. “It is something the skills guys can look forward to because it gives them the opportunity to go up against somebody other than themselves.”

The nine teams in the tournament will include two teams from Central Phenix City, Valley, Andalusia, Daleville, Northview, Dothan, Charles Henderson and Baldwin County.

Each team will participate in four pool play games in the morning that will be spread out between Veterans Memorial Stadium and the university’s practice fields. After pool play wraps up, all nine teams will be seeded and a single-elimination style tournament will begin.

After the conclusion of pool play on Thursday, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a lunch and guest speaker for the players.

“All of this stuff has been donated to the tournament,” McCoy said. “These kids are well taken care of. We have trainers on site throughout the day in case of injury. This is a really well run tournament in my opinion, and it takes a lot of people to help it run that way.”

More than 400 athletes will participate. Pool play begins at 9 a.m. and the single-elimination tournament begins at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
