District Champs: Troy Junior Dixie Boys come from behind to defeat Enterprise to claim district championship

The Troy Junior Dixie Boys baseball team captured the district championship on Tuesday by defeating Enterprise 11-10.

The Troy Junior Dixie Boys baseball team defeated Enterprise 11-10 on Tuesday in game two of a best-of-three series to win the district championship.

After falling behind in the middle innings, Troy was able to score four runs in the sixth to capture the district crown.

Javon Christian got the start for Troy in game two. He lasted three innings and allowed six runs, four of them earned, on four hits.

Enterprise jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an error by Marx Copeland. Troy’s offense bailed Copeland out in the bottom half of the first inning by scoring four runs.

The four runs came courtesy pf two-run homeruns by Christian and Anthony Gurba.

Enterprise battled back in the third inning and evened up the score at four apiece when they scored three runs. All three of the runs for Enterprise in the inning came by way of errors and wild pitches.

Troy was able to take a brief 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Copeland drove in John Baxley Sanders on a double to left field.

In the top of the fourth inning the wheels came off for Troy. Enterprise scored six runs to take a 10-5 lead. Enterprise compiled three hits along with four walks in the inning.

Troy attempted to get back into the game in their half of the fourth inning. They sent eight batters to the plate and scraped across two runs.

Both teams pitchers shut the door after both offenses put up runs in the middle innings.

After Christian left the mound, Troy got four innings from Sanders. He allowed four runs on seven hits.

The rollercoaster continued to go up and down as the game moved into the bottom of the sixth inning. Troy was able to once again retain the lead when they get RBI singles from Gurba that scored both Allen and Sanders and from Levi Sikes to score Copeland.

Sanders allowed a base runner in the seventh, but induced a ground ball to Gurba at shortstop to end the game.

Troy finished with 16 hits in the game. Allen, Christian, Gurba and Copeland all ended the contest with three hits apiece.
