The Troy Sweetees finished second in the district tournament after falling to Enterprise 26-12 in the district championship Wednesday night.

The Sweetees had a tall order to fill after Enterprise came out swinging in the top of the first inning, scoring 7 runs. Troy’s first batter of the game, Janaysia Cantlow, gave Troy a good answer by hitting a home run, but Troy was held to 3 runs in the inning.

Down 13-4 in the bottom of the second inning with two outs, the game looked like it was getting away from Troy, but the team was able to score 4 runs before the final out to get back in the game.

Haley Griffin made a good catch in the third inning to stop Enterprise at 5 runs for the inning, and then hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. Crisp defensive plays by Enterprise didn’t allow Troy to catch up.

Enterprise put the final nail in the coffin by scoring 8 runs in the fourth inning.

Head coach Anthony Dixon said he was proud of the way his girls played in the tournament. “We drastically improved since our first game in the tournament,” he said. “I’m super proud of these girls. We didn’t play our best game tonight, but that’s the game of softball. Sometimes you don’t play your best game.”

Even though the team didn’t win the district championship, they still qualified for the state tournament, which will be held in Montgomery beginning July 8.
