The Troy Ozone Rookie held a 7-2 lead over Eufaula in the third inning before rain suspended play in the district tournament in Andalusia.

Troy had nine hits during the first three innings in play led by Jeff Warrick, Mario Davenport and Kase Chirico who each had two a piece.

Warrick came in and started pitching in the third inning before the weather the weather delay.

Troy started quickly by scoring for runs in the top of the first inning. Warrick led off the inning with a single. After Connor Thrash was hit by a pitch, Davenport hit a triple to score both runners. Chirico drove in the third inning. Bryce Betts closed out the scoring on a single scoring Chirico from second base.

“We came out on fire and got a couple of hits in the first inning and scored four runs,” Huner said. “We wanted to be able to score first…they are seeing the ball and hitting the ball hard.”

After Huner shut the door in the bottom half of the first inning, Troy was able to tack on a single run in the second inning when JD Wilson scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Colton Taylor.

Eufaula got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when Jay Weathers walked with the bases loaded sending Allen Bennefield home.

With Rookies leading 4-1 heading into the third inning, the bats continued to stay warm when they added two more runs on a Davenport single scoring both Warrick and Thrash.

Eufaula threatened to get back in the game in the third inning, scoring a run in the third when Jay Bush stole home. Eufaula had a runner on second and first with two outs when the game was halted due to inclemate weather.
