The Troy AAA All-star team started the district tournament off in fine fashion on Thursday night by defeating Andalusia 20-1. They scored in every inning during the ball game including 11 runs in the fourth.

The Troy AAA team defeated Andalusia 20-1 on Thursday in the first round of district play at the Troy Sportsplex.

Troy scored in all four innings including an 11-run fourth inning to blow the game wide open.

“I thought it was awesome,” said AAA head coach Kevin Adams. “They gave a great effort, and we got a great start by Jackson Cleveland. Offensively we did what we thought. Batters 1-12 hit the ball well. It was really good to see it all come together.”

Cleveland pitched three of the four innings in the win. He allowed no runs and only one batter reached base via an error. Cleveland also struck out eight batters and struck out the side twice.

“He is awesome,” Adams said. “When he is throwing strikes, he is hard to beat. We played him all year and you may get a hit off him hear and there, but it’s hard to hit him consistently.”

Troy got on the board in the first inning with a two-run single by Cleveland that scored both Braden Prestwood and Tyler Martin.

Troy began to make its move in the second. Houston Gunter singled in John Lott, followed by a double by Jackson Booth that scored Gunter and a single by Slade Renfroe that scored Booth. Troy scored three more runs in the third on a Cleveland single, followed up by Bradley Prestwood reaching on an error scoring Martin. Wes Braisted finished the scoring with a single that scored Prestwood to give Troy a 9-0 lead.

Troy sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored 11 hits on seven hits by Jackson Booth, Renfroe, Jordan McBryde, Parker Adams, Malachi Cooper and Gunter.

With the win Troy will have a bye on Friday and will wait and play the winner of Greenville and Luverne on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
