For the Troy AAA team, the upcoming district tournament in Troy is all about representing their hometown.

“We are very excited,” said head coach Kevin Adams. “These guys have been playing together for a while and we are looking forward to getting into action on Thursday.”

Most of the players on the AAA roster have played together in previous years on various travel ball teams, and Adams believes offense will be its strength.

“They can all hit the ball really well,” Adams said. “It’s the first time that I have seen a team where the number 12 batter can hit as good as your number one batter. We are solid up and down the lineup.”

Troy will be in the West District and be going up against the likes of Zion Chapel, Luverne, Greenville and Andalusia. The top team from the West District will square off with the winner of the East District in a best two-out-of-three series for a chance at a spot in the state tournament.

“We watched some of Luverne, and Greenville and some of those guys,” Adams said. “I think we will matchup pretty well. I don’t know anything about Andalusia, who we play Thursday, but if we play like we should we should be OK.”

Just like in any league, the difference in being successful or not will be the performance of the pitching staff.

“I think the number one thing for us is to throw strikes,” Adams said. “As long as we throw strikes I think we will be in really good shape. We have a solid defense.”

In the end, whether they win or lose they want to be able to represent their hometown.

“We talk about it everyday,” Adams said. “They finally get to represent their city. I told them this isn’t travel ball where you lose this week and come back next weekend. When you lose now, it’s over and you don’t get this opportunity back. That’s the biggest things with these kids.”
