The Goshen Eagles welcomed students to come and watch their 2016 Purple and Gold Game as they wrapped up spring workouts on Wednesday.

Both teams had lengthy drives, but in the end it was the Gold Team that walked away with a 10-6 win.

“Overall I thought we did some really good things,” said Eagles head coach Bart Snyder. “We are very young on the offensive line, so we have a lot of improving to do there. We saw some good plays out of our receivers and running backs. I saw a lot of lineman at times doing some good things, so I think overall we will be fine.”

Of the three quarterbacks that got work on Wednesday, it was Brock Snyder of the purple team who won the day. Snyder completed six of his seven passed for about 61 yards and one touchdown, including a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jamarcus Sanford.

“I thought I did good,” Brock Snyder said. “I just have to work on getting the ball out faster.”

Bailey Wright and Brian Galloway of the white team finished 3-7 and 1-2. Galloway also rushed for 20 yards on two carries.

“Brock and Brian Galloway did some good things,” Snyder said. “I was really proud of that.”

Zach Alford led the way in rushing for the purple squad. Alford ran the ball a total of 11 times and three runs of 10-yards or greater and finished with about 60 yards.

Damian Passmore led the way for the white team with six carries for 27-yards.

It wasn’t all pretty for the Goshen Eagles on Wednesday. The purple team committed a safety on botched snap that Snyder batted out of the end zone. That botched snap was one of two bad snaps on the afternoon.

“There are some things we need to work on,” Snyder said. “We have some pre-snap reads that we need to work on … It was the first time our centers have snapped the football. They have done it in practice but it was the first time they have done it in front of people. We knew it was something we had to do, so we’ll be fine.”

The spring game puts a cap on Goshen’s two-week long spring schedule. The players took their opportunity in spring practice to be able to get better in advance of summer workouts and fall camp.

“The important thing about the spring is that it allows us to see what we need to work on,” said receiver Iyan Hinkle. “It tells us who fits where and who needs to get stronger and faster.”

“We need to work hard and get stronger so we can be better in the fall,” Galloway said.
