Troy University to celebrate DeMarcus Ware Day

Troy University will help honor Super Bowl champion and former Troy University Trojan DeMarcus Ware on Tuesday inside Trojan Arena at 5 p.m.

Super Bowl champion and former Troy Trojan Demarcus Ware will be honored today by the State of Alabama, the City of Troy and Troy University.

Ware, who was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2005 draft, finished his career as Troy’s all time leader in tackle’s for loss with 55.5. He also ranks near the top in sacks with 27 for a loss of 198 yards. Ware was named to the Sun Belt Conference All decade team and was named the conference’s defensive player of the year in 2004.

Ware will begin the day being recognized by the State of Alabama at a proclamation ceremony in the Old House Chamber at the State Capitol at 11 a.m.

Ware will be presented with a gubernatorial proclamation to celebrate his achievements on the field.

After spending some time at the capitol, Ware will make the trek to the Troy University campus where he will take part in a special ceremony inside Trojan Arena starting at 5 p.m.

During the festivities, Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. will present the Troy Distinguished Leadership Award to Ware and Troy Mayor Jason Reeves will present Ware the key to the city.

Other activities during the evening include a question and answer segment with the “Voice of the Trojans” Barry McKnight, while Troy Cheerleaders and the Sound of the South will also be there to help celebrate at the event.

The doors to Trojan Arena will open at 4 p.m. and the event is open and free to the public.
