The Pike Lady Patriots struggled to score runs on Tuesday when they fell to Glenwood 8-1 and 4-2 in a double-header.

The Patriots gave themselves a chance to score in game one, but stranded eight runners on base.

“They just out played us,” said Patriots head coach Robert Rollan. “In my opinion, we just didn’t show up. It was frustrating tonight.”

The Patriots scored their first and only run of game one when Bailey Rushing got on base with a single, advancing to second on a ground up. Callee Jinright drove in Rushing with a base hit up the middle.

Jinright finished the game 2-3 with one RBI, while Kayla Dendy finished 1-4. Elaina Strother was 1-3 with a double and Rushing was 1-2 with a walk.

In game two, the Patriots stayed close to Glenwood but once again their offense failed to get the big hit when needed.

“It was a little bit better of a game,” Rollen said. “We didn’t hit the ball at all. We left 10 batters on base.”

Glenwood scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and one in the fifth to go up 5-0. The Patriots scored their only two runs in the top half of the fifth inning when Rushing singled in Amanda Finlayson and Jordan Grice drove in Sam Yarbrough.

Finlayson was 2-3 with one run scored and Dendy and Rushing both finished the game 1-3.

The Patriots (9-0 in area play) will be in action on April 21 when they play the winner of Hooper and Fort Dale in the regional playoffs to determine seeding for the state playoffs.
