Walk-off home run lifts Trojans

Tucker Earles hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans a 5-3 area win over Eufaula on Tuesday night.

The Trojans (7-8, 2-0) finished with eight hits on the night led by Earles who went a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Emma Kirkpatrick and Sidney Armstrong both picked up two hits.

Lakin Turner started the game for the Trojans and pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Kirkpatrick pitched the game’s final two innings without surrendering a run.

The Trojans scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the third inning when Kirkpatrick scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Armstrong.

The Tigers evened up the score in the next half inning on two hits.

The Trojan offense continued to hit the ball in the bottom of the fourth inning. Turner began the inning by reaching safely on a bunt. Hope Freeswick came in to pinch run and came around to score on a single by Kirkpatrick to give the Trojans the 2-1 lead.

The Trojans added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Molly Kate Sanders reached first base on a fielder’s choice that scored Armstrong.

Turner came out to start the sixth, but was pulled after allowing a lead off double. With Kirkpatrick on the mound, the Tigers followed with a triple and a base hit to tie the score at 3-3.

Earles hit the one-out home run in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Trojans the 4-3 win.

Charles Henderson will be back in action April 7 when they travel to play Pike County.
