The New Brockton Gamecocks scored three runs in the sixth inning to cap a 9-8 comeback win over the Goshen Eagles on Wednesday.
The Eagles led by as many as five runs, but the Gamecocks’ seven runs over the final three innings proved too much to overcome.
The Eagles finished with 10 hits on the night. Hannah Calhoun and Sydni Garrett both had three hits; Carmen Kelley, two; and Casey Allen and Katilin Gamble, one.
The Eagles raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Garrett’s single platted both Calhoun and Kati Thomas. The Gamecocks answered with a run in the bottom half of the first and then scored a run in the third to even the score.
The Eagles retook the lead in the fourth when they scored five runs. Kelley had a one out double that scored both Tessa Little and Calhoun. With two outs, Garrett doubled scoring both Kelly and Allen. Gamble closed out the inning with a single scoring Allen for their seventh run.
New Brockton answered with two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and took the lead in the sixth when they scored three runs to go up 9-8.
The Eagles scored their last run in the fifth inning when Kelley doubled, scoring Calhoun.
Garrett took the loss for the Eagles. She pitched six innings, allowing nine runs seven of which were earned; nine hits; seven strikeouts; and three walks.
