The Pike Lady Patriots softball team scored in all but one inning as they defeated area foe Fort Dale 13-7 on Tuesday.

“It’s always big (to beat a region team),” said Patriots head coach Robert Rollan. “It makes us 2-0 in the region. We have Monroe next Tuesday, so we are almost to the end of the first half of our region schedule. We are trying to focus on that front half and coming out of it undefeated.”

After allowing two runs in the top of the first inning the Patriots took the lead in the bottom half and never looked back.

“We did a really good job other than the first inning,” Rollan said. “Right now the first inning is kind of a crutch for us. We are trying to find a way to get out of the first inning without giving up any runs. If we can do that I think we can be a very good ball club.”

Bailey Rushing led the Patriot offense attack by going 4-4, Sam Yarbrough went 3-3 with a homerun and Danielle Brown finished 2-3.

“We are hitting the ball real well right now,” Rollan said. “We are hitting at a .400-.500 clip as a team.”

Amanda Finlayson picked up the win for the Patriots by pitching the game’s first three innings. Rushing pitched the final four innings.

The Patriots will be back in action on Thursday when the host Macon East after the conclusion of the junior varsity game.
