Samantha Yarbrough hit two homeruns and pitched a complete game in Pike Lib’s 11-9 win over Edgewood on Monday.

The Patriots surrendered four runs in the first inning after making mistakes defensively. After settling down the Patriots were able to claw their way back in the game thanks to timely hitting and better defense.

“As the game went along we got stronger,” said Patriots head coach Robert Rollan. “Our pitching got better and our pitching got more solid. We started moving in and out of the innings better.”

Rollan was impressed about how his team kept battling and not giving up.

“They hung in there, battled and never gave up,” Rollan said. “They found a way to put runs on the board. They (Edgewood) did what we have done in the past. They thought the game was over.”

With Edgewood leading 4-1, Yarbrough stepped up the plate and ripped a three-run homerun to tie the game. Yarbrough closed out the scoring for the Patriots by hitting her second homerun in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 11-9.

With her performance on the mound, the young pitcher had quite a game.

“She is just trying to find strikes,” Rollan said. “She is a young pitcher and she is trying to figure out which pitches work.”

Bailey Rushing went 3-3 with a double with two RBIs; Callee Jinright had a double got the scoring started in the middle of the Game. The Patriots will host Fort Dale at 3:30 p.m. today.
