Pair of homers helps Eagles defeat Ariton

A pair of homeruns helped the Goshen Eagles to a 7-5 win over Ariton on Tuesday.
The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Kati Thomas hit a shot to left center, scoring Hannah Calhoun for the game’s first run.
Kate Warrick drove in the second run of the game in the second inning when she hit a double and scored Katlyn Gamble.
Ariton battled back in the second and third innings and jumped out to a 3-2 lead over the Eagles, who stormed back in the fifth inning. They scored three runs in the inning off a double by Carmen Kelley who scored Calhoun and the two-run homerun by Casey Allen.
After holding Ariton in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles closed out their scoring with a pair of runs highlighted by a homerun by Kelley to increase their lead out to 6-3. Ariton scores a couple runs in both the sixth and seventh inning but it wasn’t enough to catch the Eagles. Kelley finished the game batting 3-4 and had two RBI’s while Allen finished 2-4 with a walk, a homerun and two RBIs. She also stole two bases.
Hannah Calhoun got the start for the Eagles and went 6 2/3 while allowing five runs on five hits and striking out four Purple Cats batters.
With the win the Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season. They will be back in action Thursday when they play Straughn at 5:30 p.m.
