The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans were tested Wednesday evening but thanks to solid free throw shooting in the fourth quarter they were able to secure the 46-39 win over the Eufaula Tigers.

The Trojans struggled with turnovers the majority of the evening and went into half trailing 19-17.

“I gave them a pep talk,” said Trojans head coach Dyneshia Jones. “It was a bad thing that we turned the ball over, but we were just down by two even with all those turnovers.”

The Trojans outscored the Tigers 12-10 in the third quarter after Niaira Jones and Maori Davenport both finished the quarter strong.

With the Trojans and Tigers tied at 29 heading into the fourth quarter, it turned into a game of free throws. Johnson went to the line a total of 11 times and nailed seven.

“We had a great free throw percentage at the end,” Jones said. “That’s a lot of free throws late when they are trying to stop the clock. We made them.”

Even with foul trouble, India Blakely led the Trojans in scoring with 19 points, while Jones finished with 14.

Blakely and Maori Jones both ran into foul trouble, turning to teammates for help.

“It’s going to take everybody to step up,” coach Jones said. “India was in foul trouble and we had two of leading scorers that were sitting down. The younger girls had to step up.”

The Lady Trojans will be back in action Friday evening when they welcome Bullock County into Troy. Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m.
