TROJANS WIN: Lady Trojans improve to 19-1 on the season after defeating Hillcrest-Evergreen 61-33

Senior India Blakely posted 17 points for the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans in Saturday’s 61-33 route of the Hillcrest-Evergreen Jaguars.

Blakely’s play and strong defense set the tone in the Trojans’ 19th win of the season.

“They did everything the way it needed to be done,” said Trojans head coach Dyneshia Jones. “I am a defensive coach but I can’t expect the other team to go scoreless. Overall we did a good job.”

Prior to the game, the Trojans struggled with defending the fast break and defending pull-up three-point attempts. The hustle on defense returned against the Jaguars..

“We did that a lot better,” Jones said. “From a stats point of view they only made two three-pointers in the game. We did a lot better.”

The Trojans came jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the first quarter.

Blakely scored 10 points in the first half, giving the Trojans a 31-16 lead. Tatyana Siler converted eight points in the half and Maori Davenport and eighth-grader Niaira Jones finished with six points each.

The Trojans outscored the Jaguars 21-9 in the third and entered the final quarter holding a 52-25 lead.

Blakely led the way with 17 points, while Siler finished with 15. Jones and Davenport both contributed with 10 points.

The Trojans begin area play Friday when they host Rehobeth. Tip off for the Lady Trojans is scheduled for approximately 5:30 p.m.

“We need to keep working on fundamentals,” Coach Jones said. “I don’t want to put too much of an emphasis on just one thing and forget about other things. We are going to practice all this week and work on the fundamentals of everything.”
