“We were able to beat our team from our area,” said Trojans head coach Dyneshia Jones. “That was really big for us.”

The Trojans claimed their second tournament championship of the season, despite a touch opponent in the Tigers. The Trojans secured a berth in the championship round after beating Enterprise 62-11 in round one and Dothan in round two 49-24.

Jones said the key was using the transition offense, beating their opponent down the floor and converting on easy baskets.

“Our transition scoring was a big key,” Jones said. “Feeding the ball down low to the post was also really big for us. Even though we converted too many turnovers, we were able to pull it off.”

The Lady Trojans’ struggles with turnovers kept the Tigers in the game and almost proved enough for a Eufaula comeback.

“Our turnovers more or less kept them in the game,” Jones said. “They were able to score off our turnovers a lot during the game. They had some fast breaks against us. We didn’t get back on defense and they were able to get some easy lay ups on us.”

The Lady Trojans surrendered nine points in each of the four quarters.

India Blakely led the Trojans with 18 points and Maori Davenport finished with 17.

In earlier games, Niaira Jones finished the opening round game with 14 points, Davenport had 15 points and Blakely finished with 16.

The Trojans were able to take a 20-10 lead against Dothan into the break thanks in large part to their size inside.

“They didn’t have a lot of size,” Jones said. “It was easy for Maori (Davenport) she scored 24 points. She had a pretty good games and was able to get a lot of block shots.”

Davenport led the Trojans with 24 points while Blakely finished with 11.

The Trojans now have won two tournaments and have made it look easy in the process.

“It may look easy from an end result, but from a coaching stand point it’s not,” Jones said. “They really fought out there. I told them it’s good to have that many turnovers and still win. There are still plenty of things that we need to work on. We can’t be satisfied with any of that.”

The Lady Trojans will rest during the holidays and prepare for Faulkner University showcase on Dec. 28.
