The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans got their 10th win of the season in blowout fashion on Friday by defeating Barbour County 55-24.

Niaira Jones scored a team-high 24 points. Freshman Maori Davenport finished with another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while also picking up four blocked shots.

“They did a pretty good job,” said Trojan head coach Dyneshia Jones. “We got a pretty good jump in the first quarter.

Outside shooting set the tone for the Trojans, who nailed five three-pointers in the first period. Niaira Jones picked up 15 of her 24 points in the opening period, contributing 11 straight points for the Trojans.

“We did really well all the way around,” Jones said. “After the first quarter I was able to put my second string in.”

The Trojans had a week off after their last game, but Jones wasn’t worried about how they would respond.

“I wasn’t concerned about it,” Jones said. “I gave them Saturday off and on Sunday we got right back to running and gunning. I didn’t treat it like we had a week off. They practiced really hard every day.”

India Blakely finished with seven points along with five assists. Tatyana Siler also finished in double-figures with 12 points on the night.

The Trojans travel to Barbour County on Tuesday for a rematch. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30

“We need to be prepared for everything,” Jones said. “They have some great shooters. They don’t have any big girls but they have a great shooting team. We can’t underestimate them.”
