The athleticism and quickness of Carroll proved too much to handle for the Goshen Eagles on Thursday.
Coming off an impressive road win, the Eagles’ confidence was high but not enough to contain the Carroll Eagles, who won 63-38.
“It was a perfect example and proof to our kids that we are not ready,” said Eagles head coach Ethan Carroll. “I think we had some kids that thought we were where we needed to be.”
The Eagles played in the opening quarter, and sophomore Mike Hollis’ 11 points brought the Eagles to within just 5 points.
The overall pressure came in the second quarter when the Carroll went on a 14-0 run.
“We just didn’t hustle,” Carroll said. “The biggest thing I noticed tonight – and it’s my fault – we need to do a better job at getting our kids into shape. They were depleted with injuries right now, but that is no excuse. We didn’t do many things right tonight.”
Carroll led 38-28 at the half, and started the third quarter with a 12-0 run. Goshen struggled to get any points on the board in the third quarter. They entered the fourth quarter trailing 50-33.
Carroll outscored the Eagles 13-5 in the fourth and final victory on their way to an easy victory.
Hollis, the sophomore point guard, finished with a team high 19 points.
“He is starting to understand the game a lot more,” Carroll said. “This is the first year that he has had to run point guard. He is getting better each game, we just have to keep him out of foul trouble.”
The loss for the Eagles brings their overall record on the season to 4-2.
The Eagles will hit the road this afternoon and head to Providence Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
